Glendale Dentist Explains the Benefits and Expediency of Cerec Crowns

Written by Dr. McKay on Nov 26, 2021

When a patient has a substantial filling or suffers extensive damage to dental enamel, they may require a dental crown. Traditionally, in order to receive a dental crown, a patient has to go through two dental appointments. In the first appointment, the dentist assesses the tooth, files down dental structure, and takes an impression for the final crown. Then the patient must wear a temporary crown for two or three weeks until they can have their final crown placed.

Our office now offers a faster and more convenient alternative to the traditional crown process. Cerec crowns are made of pure porcelain, and they are milled in our Glendale office. This means that our Glendale Cerec crown dentists can place your crown in just one appointment. Importantly, this means that you won’t have to endure wearing a temporary crown for weeks.

Temporary crowns are generally made of acrylic and provisionally placed over the damaged tooth. Many patients experience difficulties during the weeks they must wear a temporary crown, including:

Tooth Pain—the dental structure under a temporary crown has been filed away, and thus it is more likely to become irritated and sore. A patient may experience tooth or gum soreness in the two to three weeks that they wait for their permanent crown to be ready.

Sensitivity/pain to hot and cold temperatures—because a temporary crown fits less exactly than a permanent crown, a patient’s dental nerves may be more susceptible to sensitivity.

Bite misalignment—temporary crowns are less precisely made, so they may disrupt a patient’s normal bite. Some patients find it more difficult to chew and speak with a temporary crown.

With Cerec crowns, you no longer have to worry about experiencing tooth pain, sensitivity, or bite problems due to a temporary crown. Our Glendale Cerec crown dentists can have your crown milled and placed in just one easy appointment. If you’ve been putting off important restorative dental care because you didn’t want to deal with the hassle of getting a crown placed, please know that Cerec crowns can streamline the process.
