Traditionally, in order to receive a dental crown, a patient has to go through two dental appointments. In the first appointment, the dentist assesses the tooth, files down dental structure, and takes an impression for the final crown. Then the patient must wear a temporary crown for two or three weeks until they can have their final crown placed.

Bite misalignment—temporary crowns are less precisely made, so they may disrupt a patient’s normal bite. Some patients find it more difficult to chew and speak with a temporary crown.
