One of the best things that you can do for your own smile is to develop and maintain a healthy flossing routine. What exactly does this entail? Our Glendale dentists are here to help you understand what it takes to floss effectively and efficiently. Keep reading to learn more!
Flossing is a critically important component of any patient’s dental routine. However, a surprisingly large number of adult patients fail to floss as recommended every day. We are here to tell you that flossing is not as cumbersome as it may seem at first, and it can make all the difference in your smile!
When you start flossing…
1. Pick out a type of floss (taste and finish) that works for you. As long as the floss fits between your teeth, and does not shred while you are using it, it will clean your smile.
2. Make sure that you floss between every one of your teeth when you floss. And don’t forget to floss behind your back molars.
3. Use a fresh (clean) little portion of your strip of floss between each tooth, so as not to compound dental plaque in your mouth.
4. Floss before you brush your teeth. When you follow this order (floss, brush, rinse) you can dislodge the dental plaque and debris in your mouth, and then promptly brush and rinse it away.
One key to developing a successful flossing routine is diligence. Make the time to floss your teeth every single day—remember, plaque never takes a day off from attacking your smile.
