Glendale Dentist Helps You Master Your Flossing Routine

Written by Dr. McKay on Sep 29, 2015

If you are guilty of skipping flossing every day, you certainly aren’t alone. Our Glendale dentists have found that many adult patients just don’t make the time to floss religiously. Unfortunately, this can have a pretty detrimental effect on your smile over time.

The good news is that it’s easy to recommit to a healthy flossing routine. In this article we’ll be reviewing best practices for dental flossing.

1. Do it every single day!

Think about it: dental plaque never takes a day off from attacking your smile, so you can’t take a day off from caring for your smile! Floss every single day: ideally at night before you brush your teeth. When you brush every day you drastically minimize the amount of plaque that is able to calcify into tartar.

2. Use floss that fits

There are many different types of floss available on the market today, and what type of floss you want to use is really up to you. When choosing a type of floss, however, just make sure that it fits comfortably between your teeth, so that you can move it up and down the full length of each tooth.

3. Great for dental debris!

If you find that you have a piece of food stuck in your teeth during the day, try using floss to dislodge it. Floss is a much better choice than abrasive instruments, like toothpicks, for example. Toothpicks can actually damage dental enamel or gum tissue. Floss is the gentle way to eliminate food particles from between your teeth.
