Our Glendale dentists are here to help you with every aspect of your dental health journey, and that includes at-home oral hygiene. We help our dental patients, both young and old, craft effective and intuitive oral hygiene routines that they can maintain at home.

Here are some of the things that can help you care for your smile day to day:

The first thing to do is to follow the ADA’s (and our dental team’s) recommendation to brush your teeth at least twice a day, and to floss once a day. It matters when you do these things! For best results, you want to brush your teeth in the morning to give your smile a fresh start for the day, and right before you go to bed, so that your smile has a clean slate for the night. The best time to floss is right before your brush your teeth at night.

Now, you can also add a mouth rinse into your routine if you want extra bacteria-fighting and breath-freshening power. Ask your dentist if you are unsure about what type of mouth rinse is appropriate for you.

It is also important to think critically about the tools you are using to clean your smile. First of all, the size of your toothbrush head should be appropriate for your mouth—meaning that your toothbrush should be able to fit in the far reaches of your smile to clean your back teeth. When it comes to the type of bristle to use, most patients will do well with soft-bristled toothbrushes. However, your dentist may recommend a medium-bristled brush if he or she deems it necessary. When you are choosing a type of floss to use, pick one that fits comfortably between your teeth, and moves all the way down to your gum line as you clean your smile.

A strong daily dental hygiene routine can set you up for oral health success for years to come. So please contact our Glendale dentists if you have questions or if you would like to schedule a consultation with our team.
