Plan Ahead For Dental Emergencies With Help From Our Glendale Dentists

Dental accidents and emergencies happen to even the most careful dental patients. If and when you encounter a sudden dental problem, our Glendale dentists are here to help you through the restorative dentistry process.

Today we are going to talk about some things that you can do in order to streamline the treatment process once you have suffered a dental trauma.

1. The first thing that you should do is to figure out exactly whom you will call if you run into a dental problem. Make sure that this information is readily available to your family, so that everyone is on the same page when a problem arises.

2. If your tooth is knocked out, you want to do everything you can to keep it viable until you get to the dentist’s office. If the tooth is able to sit comfortably in the gum tissue, gently reinsert the tooth into the hole in your smile.

If the tooth does not go back into place, do not force it into your gum tissue; this can actually lead to gum tissue, tooth, and nerve damage. Instead, place your tooth in milk in order to transport it to your dentist’s office.

To have the best chance of saving your natural tooth, try to get to your dentist as soon as possible after tooth loss—within an hour or two.

3. If your tooth is damaged—cracked or fractured—do not place any foods, drink, or medications directly on your tooth. Bring your dentist any tooth fragments that you may have retained—these can help your dentist create a restoration that works for your tooth.

Dental accidents are always difficult to deal with, but they are so much easier to recover from when you have a good support system. So call our Glendale dentists to schedule a consultation and learn more about all of your restorative dentistry options!
